How to Invest in Yourself, Mama
I shared something on my Instagram yesterday, that I think is worth talking more about! Moms, I used to think it was a badge of honor if I went to bed, exhausted, and crossed everything off my to do list and didn’t do anything for myself that day. I was burnt out to the max and just didn’t feel good mentally or physically. AND you could see it in my body too. I was puffy, stressed, anxious. All of the things.
When God slowed my life down the end of last summer, He really taught me that prioritizing my health was more important than any to-do list, or perfect looking home. He taught me that the real badge of honor is knowing that I got my items done on my to do list, but I also took care of myself. It is really easy to get burnt out Mom’s. It’s really easy to make excuses for why we are not doing things that are good for us. It’s harder to practice time management and actually make the time for ourselves. I encourage you to figure out where in your day you can spend an hour on your physical and mental health.
As I was healing my hormones, and my body from the inside out I had to learn how to better manage my time. How to say yes to slowing down so I could say yes to all of the other things I wanted to do as well! However, I had to learn that even a ‘yes’ to going to a Bible Study might be me saying ‘no’ to something that may be better for me - like getting enough sleep, or having enough time to prepare a homemade meal that day. The secret to being able to do it all - without being burnt out - is time management and priorities. More on that in another post. I would suggest reading the book Life Management for Busy Women to get some ideas though!
Here are some things I do to avoid burn out:
- Read my Bible first thing in the morning
- Try to get a 15 to 30 minute walk in or exercising each day
- Make sure I’m having good food choices and not overindulging too much
- If I have to make a choice between a house chore or taking a shower I choose the shower.
- I evaluate what I’m saying no to in order for me to say yes to something else
- I read books on time management, how to be a Christian mom and wife, parenting, marriage, and more to help learn from others and put into practice what would work for our family.
An investment in yourself, Mama is an investment in your family.
