How to Rest Like a Mother
Productivity looks different for everyone and sometimes it looks like rest! On my recent podcast episode “Burnout and Exhaustion in Motherhood and How to Overcome it” I talk about burnout and what that looks like, what I do when I’m feeling burnout, and how to overcome it.
Typically we feel burnt out when we go through a season that we haven’t taken time to rest through. If we’re constantly going, going, going and not taking the time to stop and rest then it can lead to that burnt out, exhausted, stuck feeling. No one wants to feel that way!
You have to take some time to rest throughout the day. My goal is 1 hour of rest total a day. Whatever that may look like, I try my best to achieve it.
Sometimes it looks like…
A really long hot shower, with dry brushing, exfoliation, and a face mask.
Hot bubble bath at the end of the day.
Time at the spa for a pedicure.
Fine tuning my nutrition and ensuring I’m getting enough hydration.
Day off so I can relax and fill my cup.
Time out with friends.
Sometimes rest doesn’t look this fancy. Sometimes it just looks like…
Easy dinner, so I can enjoy a meal with everyone without having to do dishes, or cook.
Hot cup of tea while the kids play and I let them have free range to make a mess so I can rest.
Increasing my supplements and making sure I’m fueling my body!
Coloring with the kids so we are taking all taking time away from technology and clearing our mind.
Rest, like self-care, doesn’t have to be difficult, or hard to accomplish. It can and should be simple and easy to achieve and is rest. It can look different for all of us. The point is, we feel rejuvinated and like we’ve given our mind and body a total reset!
Affirmations for moments you need rest:
- Rest is necessary for my body to reset.
- Rest is productive.
- Rest allows me to show up as my best self.
- Planning time of rest allows me to give 110% when I’m not resting because I know the rest is coming.
