It’s a Thursday morning, and it’s supposed to rain all day long. I’m not upset about it though because we really need the rain. It has been so dry in Pennsylvania and we have been struggling with dust, allergies and my plants are really missing the wet ground! I’m sitting at my kitchen table getting some client work completed and at the same time trying to get marketing done for my marketing agency and just simply feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of my tasks ahead of me. That happens a lot because I’m a mom of 3, I am building multiple businesses between the marketing agency, brand collaborations, this blog and the podcast, plus I have a home to manage - I am constantly being pulled in a million directions with lists that are absolutely never ending. I want to do it all to the best of my ability, so that’s a lot of pressure!

I’m sure you can relate to the feeling of complete overwhelm. With that said, I do feel at peace. I feel at peace because God has helped me learn how to prioritize my relationship with Him first. When I want to cry or scream over the chaos; I choose to pray. My emotions are controlled because I’m learning to allow the spirit to lead me. A song, which I will share below, called Spirit Lead Me came on in this moment and I felt it to my bones. When we’re in seasons of overwhelm, or confusion, chaos, or a mix of all of it - we have to connect with the Holy Spirit.

I wasn’t feeling overwhelmed by the daily responsibility I carry; I love each aspect of what I’m in responsible for. I was feeling overwhelmed by worldly things (perfectionism, doubt, words being spoken over me, etc.). Allowing doubt, and chaos enter my mind.

For these reasons, I have learned how important it is to let the spirit lead. I’ve been studying the fruits of the spirit for the last year and I think the hardest fruit of the spirit to learn is self-control. Once we learn to have more self-control we can accomplish so much more.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." - Galations 5:22-23

Self-control can be defined by the dictionary as “the ability to control one's emotions and desires, especially in difficult situations.”

Simply put, if we’re allowing our worldly problems to control our emotions and desires in difficult situations then we’re not having self-control. An example of a lack of self-control is; when I felt overwhelmed I could have stopped everything and sat on the couch and relaxed - because certainly with all I’ve had going on the last few weeks I could have felt like I deserved that time. Instead of making a decision that would not have served me - I kept going. I prayed. I listened to the song that came on and meditated on the words:

If You say, "It's wrong, " then I'll say, "No"
If You say, "Release, " I'm letting go
If You're in it with me, I'll begin
And when You say to jump, I'm diving in
If You say, "Be still, " then I will wait
If You say to trust, I will obey
I don't wanna follow my own ways
I'm done chasing feelings
Spirit lead me, hmm
Oh, Spirit lead me

I just think these lyrics are so beautiful and captivating. They make it so clear that the spirit will guide you and lead you. He will not forsake you. He has your best interest in mind and if you’re in this moment right now - He knows it. He will guide you through it and He will help you feel less overwhelmed, less disorganized, less chaotic. He will take away those earthly feelings and emotions and replace them with the truth! God is in control. He has your path planned out for you - all you have to do is listen and let His spirit guide you.

You might be wondering what that means? How do I know what He’s telling me? It may not happen immediately dear friend, and that is okay but you must keep praying and meditating on scripture and then you must obey when you hear His voice. Chances are you already know what is right and you’re choosing not to obey because you’re fearful of change, uncertainty or what lies ahead. Trust in Him and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

I’m praying for you to find clarity, discernment and hope in the next right thing my friend. He is there for you, and will be there for you always!
